Feliciano Lopez: "I have prepared myself very well to play the Mallorca Championships"

The Spaniard talks before making his debut in what will be his last ATP tournament

Feliciano López and Stefanos Tsitsipas took to the court on Monday at the Mallorca Championships. Pairing up in the doubles draw, the Spaniard and the Greek took on Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin. Although they lost to the Mexican and the Frenchman (6-4, 6-4), the match helped them to prepare for their respective debuts in the singles draw.

"I prepared myself thoroughly at all levels to come to Mallorca, going on a diet to lose weight and training some days even in the afternoon. After playing in Acapulco I felt I had the strength to face the remaining tournaments and I am calm because I feel competitive", confessed Feliciano López before his debut at the Mallorca Championships this Tuesday, not before four o'clock in the afternoon, against the Australian Max Purcell.

The player from Toledo was clear about how and where he wanted to end a two-decade career as the Spanish tennis player with the most victories on grass in history (85). "The idea was to retire playing and to do it in the grass season, which is the one that has always given me the most success. Honestly I'm very happy with what I've played so far," he said.

"I'm happy to have been able to last 20 years as a professional without failing. I think that's something I'm proud of. As well as having left a good memory in my teammates as a correct person and to be a different player to what the Spanish are used to my style as a player with my serve," he concluded.
