Carballés survives sunday’s marathon

On Sunday, Spaniards Roberto Bautista (6/1, 6/0 to Taro Daniel) and Roberto Carballés (7/6[4], 4/6, 7/6[3] to Pablo Carreño) made their debuts with victories, the second one in the longest match of the day, last of them (2 hours and 48 minutes). 

In addition to Alexander Michelsen (6/3 and 7/6[4] to Nuno Borges). The American, at 19 years and 9 months, is the youngest player to reach the first round at the Mallorca Championships presented by waterdrop®.

In the doubles draw, Mallorcan Jaume Munar and Spaniard Pedro Martínez beat the Austrian duo of Miedler/Thiem (6/3 and 6/1). Meanwhile, in the other match of the day, Americans Nathaniel Lammons and Jackson Withrow, top seeds, defeated Darderi/Ofner (6/4 and 7/6[4]).

The main draw of the Mallorca Championships presented by waterdrop® has its first star match on Monday. Dominic Thiem and Gael Monfils will face each other in what is known as Family Day not before 18:00 on centre court.

The fourth edition of the only ATP 250 on grass in southern Europe hosts the clash between two players with a long career on the ATP circuit. While the Austrian is a former US Open champion (2020), the Frenchman has won 12 ATP titles in his career.

The match will certainly have another special attraction because Thiem, at the age of 30, has announced that 2024 will be his last professional season as a tennis player.

The day will be completed by the match between the local Jaume Munar and the Austrian Sebastian Ofner, not before 15:30, or the clash between the Italian Fabio Fognini and the Dutchman Gijs Brouwer, which will open the day at 13:00.
