Tribute to Feliciano López at the glamorous and exclusive Opening Night

The Mallorca Country Club honoured the German tennis player Boris Becker with its membership

The Opening Night gala, presented by Engel & Völkers, kicked off the Mallorca Championships 2023 on Saturday. An event that, in its third edition, continues to consolidate itself as a benchmark event that combines tennis with society and glamour. Feliciano López was the centre of attention at the tribute paid to him at the Mallorca Country Club.

The Spanish tennis player is playing his last tournament at home in Santa Ponça (Calvià) and the Mallorca Championships paid him a tribute to his laureate record with 7 titles and more than 500 individual victories on the ATP Tour, five times Davis Cup champion with Spain and winner of a Grand Slam doubles title at Roland Garros (2016).

Feliciano was received at the Mallorca Country Club, decked out like on the big occasions, by Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of e|motion Sports, together with his wife Sandra Gago, his son and his parents. Numerous personalities from the world of sport paraded down the carpet, such as German tennis star Boris Becker and his wife and Anabel Medina, the Spanish captain of the Billie Jean King Cup, as well as Toni Nadal, director of the Mallorca Championships, together with his wife, daughter and niece Maribel Nadal, marketing director of the Rafa Nadal Academy.

As for celebrities, comedians and TV presenters Arturo Valls and David Broncano, along with his partner, actress Silvia Alonso, also passed through the photocall. Both took part in a lighthearted exhibition with Feliciano Lopez and the German tennis player Tommy Haas, who delighted those present. The actress and singer Carolina Cerezuela also took centre stage, coming down to the court to sing along with the participants in the exhibition in a relaxed atmosphere.

Before the Opening Night dinner, the Mallorca Country Club presented Becker with a club membership. The winner of six Grand Slam titles, three of them at Wimbledon (1985, 86 and 89), was entertained by the audience and received a round of applause after a few words of thanks. The evening ended with a spectacular light show that illuminated the Clubhouse, accompanied by live music that livened up the end of the exclusive and lively evening.
