Daniil Medvedev returns to Mallorca: ATP250 Mallorca Championships Offitial Entry List

The entry list for the second edition of the Mallorca Championships is now officially closed. Among the players fighting for the title at the Mallorca Country Club will be Daniil Medvedev, reigning US Open champion and only recently becoming the ATP’s number 1 for a short time. Medvedev will try to defend his title from last year, when he beat American Sam Querrey in the finals. After his victory, Medvedev emphasized how much he enjoyed playing on the island and promised to return in the future. Making good on his promise, he will now be headlining an amazingly strong roster of players at the Mallorca Championship’s second edition.

In addition to the Russian, there will be five players from the world’s top 20 (not counting any last-minute wildcards) competing at the Mallorca Country Club from June 18-25. Standing out are last year’s Wimbledon semifinalists Hubert Hurkacz (POL/ATP no. 13) and Denis Shapovalov (CAN/ATP no. 15), who already beat Rafael Nadal as a 17-year-old at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal.

Joining these top-class players will be Spaniards Pablo Carreño and Roberto Bautista Agut, who reached the Wimbledon semifinal in 2019. Certainly making for some entertaining matches on the center court will be Australia’s fan favorit Nick Kyrgios, who won this year’s double competition in front of a raucous home crowd at the Australian Open.

The entry list furthermore boasts players like American John Isner, winner of 16 ATP tour titles and the longest tennis match in history ever: in 2012 Isner and Frenchman Nicolas Mahut battled in Wimbledon for over 11 hours, with the American finally keeping the upper hand 70-68 in the fifth set. To this day, this match remains the longest in tennis history. Aslan Karatsev (RUS/ATP no. 41), recently reaching the quarter-finals in Indian Wells and Miomir Kecmanovic (SRB/ATP no. 31) are some of the other well-known names joining the ranks of the Mallorca Championships.

Edwin Weindorfer, CEO of the e|motion group and organizer of the Mallorca Championships, says: “I encourage all sports fans to come and enjoy this world-class tennis event. With names like Medvedev, Hurkacz, Shapovalov, Kyrgios and Carreño, we have an extraordinary list of players competing for the title at the Mallorca Country Club. There will be lots of exciting grass-court matches making for an unforgettable event.”
