Hanfmann leads a revolution at Mallorca Championships
The German upsets defending champion Tsitsipas and Eubanks eliminates third seed Shelton
Only one of the eight seeds in the Mallorca Championships draw is through to the quarter-finals. Frenchman Adrian Mannarino (4) is the only survivor of the revolution led by German Yannick Hanfmann, who surprised Stefanos Tsitsipas (6-4, 3-6, 6-2) on Wednesday.
The Greek, reigning champion at the Mallorca Country Club, was dethroned so that the third edition of the ATP 250 held in Santa Ponça (Calvià) knows a new champion after Daniil Medvedev (2021) and Tsitsipas himself (2022). On the same day, the third seeded American, Ben Shelton, lost to his compatriot Christophe Eubanks (6-7 [4], 6-4, 7-6 [2]]).
The American will now meet Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-3, 6-2 against fellow Frenchman Constant Lestienne), while the German will do the same against Spaniard Feliciano López, who is playing the last professional tournament of his career at the Mallorca Championships.
Doubles summary
