Medvedev and Querrey clash in finals
The final for the inaugural edition of the Mallorca finals is set: Daniil Medvedev (RUS) and Sam Querrey (USA) will play for the title on Saturday (4 pm start).
Top seeded Medvedev needed three sets to overcome Spaniard Pablo Carreno Busta 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach his first ATP tour final on grass court. In the rounds before he easily dispatched Frechman Corentin Moutet and Norwegian Casper Ruud.
Querrey, number 60 in the world, defeated French Adrian Manarino in straight sets (6-4, 6-l3) and will go for his second overall title on grass after winning the trophy at London’s Queen’s Club eleven years ago. On his way to the final, the 33-year old beat Roberto Carballés, Ugo Humbert and Roberto Bautista.
The two tallest players in the draw will meet only for the second time on the ATP tour with Medvedev leading the head-to-head 1-0. The win came in 2017 in the first round of the tournament at Eastbourne, also on grass. Back then, the current no. 2 in the world won 6-3, 7-5.
