Bolelli/Gonzalez first Mallorca Championships doubles winners
The first title of the Mallorca Championships went to Simone Bolelli and Maximo Gonzalez who won the inaugural edition of the Mallorca Championships doubles competition.
The Italian and Argentinian pairing defeated Marcus Daniell (NZL) and Philipp Oswald (AUT) 6-1, 7-5 in the semis which was enough to take the title as their opponents in the finals – Novak Djokovic and Carlos Gomez– had to withdraw after their win in the semis. For Bolleli/Gonzalez it was already their third title of the season, after having also won in Santiago and Parma.
On their way to the title they also beat Americans Austin Krajicek/Tennys Sandgren and Molteni (ARG)/Vavassori (ITA).
Maxi Gonzalez on winning the title: “It’s true that we were getting better results on clay this year, but we felt very comfortable here at the Mallorca Championships and achieved victories against high level couples.”
Simone Bolelli’s conclusion: “The Mallorca Country Club has allowed us to practice more than usual. The courts are fantastic which helped us adapt well to the surface and hopefully get good results for Wimbledon.”
