Tsitsipas grits his teeth

The Greek beats Bonzi and will play his first final on grass

Stefanos Tsitsipas will play his first career final on grass at the Mallorca Championships. The Greek defeated Benjamin Bonzi (6-4, 6-4) this Friday in an hour and 33 minutes of play and will now seek his second title of the season after winning the Monte Carlo Masters 1000.

The second seed of the draw already has 39 victories this 2022 and leads this section in the circuit ahead of Carlos Alcaraz (32). Tsitsipas was able to break serve in each set against the Frenchman in the ninth game of the first set and in the third game of the second set.

The world No.6 will contest his 21st ATP final at Mallorca Country Club in search of his ninth professional title after Stockholm (2018), Marseille, Estoril and ATP Finals (2019); Marseille (2020), Masters 1000 Monte Carlo and Lyon (2021); plus Masters 1000 Monte Carlo (2022).

On his way to trying to succeed Daniil Medvedev on the Mallorca Championships list, Tsitsipas has only dropped one set in the quarter-finals against American Marcos Giron in the quarter-finals (7-6[5], 4-6, 6-3). His opener, against Ilya Ivashka, was more comfortable (6-4, 6-4).
