Karatsev comes back Munar. Feliciano and Bautista make their debuts on Monday

World No.38 will face now top-seeded Daniil Medvedev

The Mallorca Championships main draw started this Sunday with three singles matches and two doubles matches. The first players to win on the second day of competition were Aslan Karatsev, Alex Molcan and Mackenzie McDonald.

Karatsev took revenge in his debut of a five-tournament winless streak after coming from behind against Jaume Munar. The local player took the first set (3-6) after a break in the fourth game. The reaction of the No.38 was immediate and managed to balance the clash after linking five games in the second set (6-1).

The momentum continued at the start of the deciding set. Karatsev closed the match with breaks in the third and ninth games (6-3) to now meet Daniil Medvedev, No. 1 in the ranking and reigning champion of the ATP250 held in Calvià, in the round of 16.

On the other hand, Molcan achieved the first victory of his career on this surface by beating the seventh seed Miomir Kecmanovic. The Slovak needed one hour and 26 minutes to beat the Serb in two sets (7-5, 6-4). This year's finalist of the Marrakech and Lyon tournaments now awaits the opponent of the cross between the Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and the Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor.

McDonald needed two hours and eight minutes to complete his comeback against Joao Sousa. The American overcame after losing the first set to the Portuguese (4-6, 7-5, 6-1) and awaits his opponent in the round of 16, which will come from the match between his compatriot Marcos Giron and sixth-seeded Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands.

In the doubles draw, the second seeds came into action with a victory. Germany's Kevin Kravietz and Andreas Mier beat the duo of South Africa's Raven Klaasen and Brazil's Marcelo Melo in the third set super tie-break (6-7[7], 6-3, 11-9). On the other hand, Australia's Matthew Veden and Austria's Philipp Oswald also advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating the pair of Bosnia's Tomislav Brkic and Serbia's Nikola Cacic (7-5, 6-1).

Order of play

This Monday the curtain will be raised on the third day of competition from 13:00 hours at the Mallorca Country Club's Centre Court. The opening clash between Ilya Ivashka and Finnish Emil Ruusuvuori will be followed by the match between the Chilean, who comes from the qualifying round, Alejandro Tabilo and Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi. Not before five o'clock in the afternoon, the Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and the Dutchman Tallon Grieskspoor will also take to the court.

The star match of the day will measure Roberto Bautista, fifth seed, against the Japanese Taro Daniel, who passed the qualy this Sunday. The Spaniard was quarter-finalist in the first edition of the tournament and returns to the circuit after a long period, since March, where he has only competed in the Madrid Masters 1000. The world No. 20 is looking to find the right competitive rhythm and adaptation to face Wimbledon on the Mallorca Country Club courts.
