Tabilo, Thompson, Daniel and Bellier complete the Main Draw
The 28 players are set to fight in second Mallorca Championship edition
Mallorca Championships Day 2 handed out the last main draw four spots. Alejandro Tabilo, Jordan Thompson, Taro Daniel and Antoine Bellier complete the 28 places available for the second edition of the ATP250 tournament held at the Mallorca Country Club.
Tabilo's triumph opened the day on Centre Court. The Canadian-born and Chilean nationalized tennis player defeated the Spanish Fernando Verdasco (6-3, 6-4) and will be looking to improve his current ranking of No.81 on the grass of Santa Ponça (Calvià), in a season in which he reached the ATP250 Córdoba final also after overcoming the qualy.
Thompson made his condition of second seeded player from the qualifiers count by defeating Quentin Halys in the fast track. It took the Australian only 61 minutes to resolve his duel with the Frenchman (6-2, 6-0). The world No.70 extends his good momentum on grass after winning the title at the ATP Challenger of Surbiton and reaching the final in Nottingham.
Bellier's victory was more difficult. The Swiss saved two match balls and needed two hours and 28 minutes to come from behind against German Mats Rosenkranz (4-6, 7-6[5], 7-6[7]). The world No.307 will thus reach his first Main Draw of the year after having reached the final of the ATP Challenger of San Luis Potosi in Mexico as his best result.
Daniel also managed to overcome the loss of the first set. The Japanese took out American Denis Kudla (3-6, 6-3, 6-4) in the longest match of the day (two hours and 37 minutes). The ATP No.127 has got off to a good start on the grass tour in his first tournament on this surface since 2018.
