Rafa Nadal completes his preparation for the grass season in Mallorca Country Club
22 Grand Slam titles winner thanked Mallorca Country Club for the treatment received and grasscourts conditions
Rafa Nadal has trained during five days in Mallorca Country Club to set up the transition to grass surface. The brand new Roland Garros Champion has been working out in the magnificent Calvià courts that will be holding the second edition of Mallorca Championships.
Last training session was held this Friday with his fellow countryman Feliciano Lopez, one of the tennis players that will appear in the main draw of Mallorca Championships.
After training session, Nadal attend to press conference where he talked about his preparation, the evolution of his left foot treatment and his immediate plans.
Rafa Nadal talked about his positive feelings these first days in the new surface: ¨I am happy I haven't been lame for a week and the evolution of my training is being progressive. I have to wait a little bit because i have not played on grass for 3 years but due to this week feelings there are chances to play Wimbledon¨, said the 36 years old tennis player.
The Spanish confirmed that he will be travelling to London on Monday where he will continue his training sessions before the third Grand Slam of the year, even though he has not confirm his participation
“My intention is to get to Wimbledon, train and play two exhibition matches in Hurlingham. So far my feelings are positive but they can change. I am happy on how I have been able to train these days increasing my work”, Nadal assured.
The Champion of 22 ‘majors’ has thanked Mallorca Country Club for being able to train on their courts and for the treatment received: “I feel lucky not to have to travel to London before which allowed me to have a more adequate recovery. Also I am very happy to have a tournament like 'Mallorca Championships' where great players come. I am convinced that it will be a success”, he said.
Nadal has praised Mallorca Country Club courts: “It is complicated to maintain the condition of the grass courts. I respect the efforts of the Club to host a tournament here with the difficulty in finding excellence on grass courts outside Wimbledon.”
