Tabilo conquers the Mallorca Championships presented by waterdrop®
Alejandro Tabilo succeeds Christopher Eubanks in a list of winners of the Mallorca Championships presented by waterdrop® that also includes Daniil Medvedev (2021) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (2022). The Chilean tennis player beat Austrian Sebastian Ofner in two sets after one hour and 14 minutes (6/3, 6/4).
The fourth seed in the singles draw wins the second title of his career, after winning this year in Auckland, beating Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko, Czech Jakub Mensik and Frenchman Gaël Monfils during the week.
"The week has been incredible, fortunately I was able to get the match out of the way and it was very tough for me to close it out against a player who fought so hard. I try to take it one match at a time and that has been the key this year," said Tabilo.
Thanks to his success at the only ATP 250 on grass in Southern Europe, Tabilo breaks into the Top-20 for the first time and joins compatriot Nico Jarry. This is a first since March 2005 when Chileans Fernando Gonzalez and Nico Massu broke into the world's top 20.
"It's nice to be so high in the rankings. The week has been unforgettable, but there is still a lot of season ahead and with Jarry we are coming very strong for the Davis Cup," said Tabilo.
The 27-year-old becomes the first player from his country to win a tournament on grass, something that Tabilo valued as something "incredible, being able to win this tournament on grass gives me a lot of confidence to continue advancing towards Wimbledon".
